Mangus the Magician is a philosopher who used illusion to make money for his family. Unfortunately, the king is against the use of dark arts and placed Mangus on trial for using magic. As a result, Mangus has sworn off all magic and focuses on philosophy, despite his lost reputation and his inability to provide for his family. I think they are all afraid of what Magnus is capable of doing if he is angry. They wonder if he would ever help them.
