Why does Lydgate support Tyke as the hospital chaplain in the novel, Middlemarch?

Though Lydgate would prefer to vote for Farebrother because he knows the man personally, Bulstrode, who is funding the hospital puts pressure on Lydgate to vote for Tyke.
