The Memory Police is a ruthless organization that rules over the islanders. At the time of the main narrative, the Memory Police have been extant for about 15 years. One of their main goals is to make various things ‘disappear,’ meaning they erase all memory of certain things from the minds of the islanders, and the townspeople lose the ability to recognize the item.
