Mary Poppins is divided into twelve chapters, each of which encapsulates one major event or day in the lives of Mary Poppins, Jane, Michael, John, and Barbara. The title of each chapter is indicative of its contents. For example, “John and Barbara’s Story” describes a particular event in the lives of John and Barbara who, heretofore, are not the main characters of the story. “The Day Out” describes Mary Poppins’ day off of work in which she goes out for tea with Bert. As such, every chapter title helps the reader know what they will be reading about in the chapter.
