Flints Pond becomes a metaphor for conflicting ideology. Flint's Pond is the body of water near Henry Thoreau's home where he often fishes to be alone with nature. This pond is point of contention in town because it belongs to Flint, the man Thoreau says mistreats it. Thoreau believes that no man can own what God created and it is over this belief that he and March first bond.
