Marmee's faith in her husband and their marriage is reinvigorated when she experiences the same emotional turmoil of writing a letter to loved ones and wanting to spare them the pain of knowing the truth of what is going on. In that moment, Marmee realizes that the letter she censors for her daughters is exactly the same as the letters March wrote to her from the battlefield, devoid of the truth out of protection. She immediately feels terrible for her condemnation of her husband, and she rushes to his side. She wants to try to "reconstruct" their relationship.
