Compare and contrast Charlie and Scott's relationship with Bill in the novel, Mao II?

It's interesting to contrast the characters of Scott and Everson, in that to some degree the lives of both are clearly defined by their relationship with Bill, but that Everson's relationship with Bill seems to be more defined by genuine compassion than that of Scott, who both uses and dominates him.
