Who is Edward Pool from Many Lives, Many Masters and what is their importance?

Edward is a physician. He is n well as a ot only on staff at the hospital, he is also a mutual friend of Weiss and Catherine. Catherine trusts Edward implicitly and openly discusses her fears with him. Edward, in fact, advises Catherine to see Weiss.

Under hypnosis, Catherine recognizes Edward playing a variety of roles in her past lives. He shows up as her father in a few other lives, though he is usually playing the part of Catherine's guard. Unfortunately, Edward died during Catherine's period of therapy. We never learn the cause of death, only that he appears to Catherine in her "in between lives state" as a spirit to give her a message of guidance.
