The story's main conflict revolves around whether or not Richard will have ample opportunity to propose to Miss Lantry before she leaves for a trip abroad.

A secondary conflict can be seen between Anthony's belief that money can buy anything...... as readers, we understand that the end of the story proves the power of love...... unfortunately, Anthony still believes that his wallet saved the day.
