What is the point of view in Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert?

The beginning of the novel is narrated by one of Charles Bovary's friends in the first person (plural). Midway through the first chapter, the point of view switches for the remainder of the novel and is written in the third person (omniscient) point of view.
