What happens to Lucy after Harry Gordon refuses to give her a ride home in the novel, Lucy Gayheart?

While Lucy is taking a walk in Haverford, she asks Harry, who is passing in a horse-drawn sleigh, to give her a ride, Harry refuses, and shortly after, Lucy accidentally falls into the nearby river and drowns.
