What happens in the opening pages of the novel, Lucy?

The novel opens with Lucy's first day in a location yet to be disclosed. She is traveling to an apartment from an airport. The driver or a fellow passenger is pointing out the sights to her. She is overwhelmed but disappointed with what she sees.
