What is the author's style in Lost Boys: Why Our Sons Turn Violent and How We Can Save Them by James Garbarino?

Garbarino writes as if he is giving a well-rehearsed lecture. He clearly states his purpose then backs it up with examples that the reader can identify with. It almost comes across as conversational, and although some very difficult issues are addressed, the reader never feels overwhelmed or lost.
