What's the meaning behind this quote? “After all we aren’t savages really and being rescued isn’t a game-” (chapter 11 pg. 170)

At this point in the novel, Ralph isn't left with a lot of options. Piggy's glasses are gone, and he needs them to see. Jack is running helter-skelter, but he might still be made to see reason. Ralph is speaking to the boys they were and hoping for what we might see as a miracle.... but the island isn't really a game, and he still has hopes of being rescued.
