Lord of the Flies

What is the meaning of the quote? • “Aren’t I having none?’ Jack had meant to leave him in doubt, as an assertion of power; but Piggy by advertising his omission made more cruelty necessary.” ( Chapter 4 pg 73-74)

In this quote, we see Jack assert his power over Piggy. Jack and Piggy have never seen eye to eye, and Piggy has taken Ralph's side throughout, but in this instance, food is paramount to life. Jack may not have Piggy's intelligence, but he does have the meat.
