In the last couple pages or so of the chapter, Ralph, Jack, and Simon respond differently to the “candle buds.” Identify differences here.

Simon actually says (one of the few times he speaks) that they are, "Like candles. Candle bushes. Candle buds." The buds symbolize the fragility and majesty of nature. This also gives us a glimpse into Simon's artistic and spiritual nature Jack on the other hand is about to slash with his knife because he sees no purpose to them. I don't think Ralph pays much attention to them.
