Why is Gus worried about his relationship with Lorena when Jake Spoon comes to town in the novel, Lonesome Dove?

When Jake asks if there are any sporting women in town, Gus knows that Jake will want exclusive rights with Lorena. He also knows that Jake has such a way with women, that Lorena is sure to grant his request. Gus does not want to lose one of his favorite hobbies.
