Government and politics are recurring ideas in the story. In Patterson's London Bridges, his main character, Alex Cross, works for the FBI as a senior agent. He is sent all over the world to work with heads of state, government officials and police departments. Alex is shown traveling to London and Paris, as well as Guantanamo Bay and Zurich.
