Upon touring Charlotte Haze’s house where he is offered a rented room, H.H. spies the Lolita sunbathing. It is the same girl-child as H.H.'s Riviera love, peering over dark glasses: supple back, chestnut hair, polka-dotted black kerchief hiding juvenile breasts, and even a tiny mole on her side. He is instantly entranced by her and takes the room.
