Why does Amy refuse Arthur's offer to pay off her father's debts in the novel, Little Dorrit?

Amy refuses Arthur's offer to pay off her father's debts because she thinks her father wouldn't know what to do if that were to happen. He has lived at the debtors' prison for so long and become so used to living there that he might otherwise not know how to function.
