Jacques Derrida was a French philosopher, whose ideas formed the basis for the philosophical system known as post-structuralism. Derrida relied heavily upon the ideas of Saussure and Barthes. His goal in philosophy was to use language to "deconstruct" systems that he described as "metaphysical".
