Who is King Herod from Life of Christ and what is their importance?

King Herod was the ruler of Judea, and the son of the King Herod who called for the execution of all children under the age of two in his kingdom, because the prophecy. When John the Baptist condemned Herod for marrying his brother's wife, he threw John in prison and later had him executed. This murder would haunt Herod's conscience for years, and was a large part of the reason he wanted to see Jesus during his trial. Herod believed that Christ might be the risen John the Baptist. Christ, however, refused to speak to Herod because he had no real interest in his teachings. Herod then sent Jesus back to Pilate, mocking him by dressing him up in the robes of a king.
