Why does Lila appreciate the letter she receives from Reverend Ames in the novel, Lila?

Reverend Ames attempt to answer Lila's questions about existence in writing demonstrates his desire to talk to her. The fact that he seems to forget he is talking (writing) to an illiterate woman pleases Lila since she would hate him for increasing her shame of her ignorance.
