Miranda is a 16-year-old girl whose life changes when an asteroid hits the moon and pushes it out of its normal orbit. Miranda shares how life changes after the asteroid hits, and the challenges that her family faces as civilization breaks down. Although Miranda struggles with selfishness and getting along with her mother and the issues they all face, she discovers the importance of family and how much she loves them. Miranda matures because of the changes in the world and at the end of the novel is willing to give her life for her mother and brothers.
