Inspiration is used in the Scripture as a metaphor as when it is said "God inspired into man the breath of life." This is the spirit of God and is not an actual wind but the Holy Spirit entering into them.

Hobbes notes that using metaphors instead of proper words is improper, as is naming things that signify nothing at all. This shows that we are not born with reason as we are with sense and memory. Reason is attained through learning and trading of ideas and should be sought out as much as possible.
