Rilke offers the Young Poet a brief commentary, which is simultaneously positive and critical. He notes that while the poems hint at something deeper, his inexperience is quite evident. Rilke suggests that the Young Poet look deep within himself for two things—the answer to the question of whether he is truly driven to be an artist, and the source of personal, human truth that will make him an artist.
