What is the author's style in Last Chance to See by Douglas Adams?

Adams writes as a wide-eyed layman and inserts bits of science in layman's terms and usually with a humorous twist. The reader comes away knowing a good deal more about the problem than before and perhaps willing to contribute to the cause as the authors suggest.
