In Chapter Three, the mention of the gas well in the basement of Belle Isle is interesting because the reader is already aware that the house is destroyed in a fire. This specific mention of the well suggests that perhaps Tex has unwittingly given Lancelot the means by which to kill Margot. It is foreshadows how Lancelot will create the fire.
