Who is Samantha Dolan from L.A. Requiem and what is their importance?

Samantha Dolan is a tough, beautiful detective in Los Angeles' elite Robbery-Homicide unit, Dolan takes her work seriously and enjoys the notoriety of being the only woman at her level of advancement. A brilliant investigator, Dolan threatens Krantz's position as lead detective with her keen eye and dogged investigative style. Krantz, therefore, assigns her to baby-sit Cole while he is working out of Parker Center. Dolan, a consummate professional with a well-honed poker face and a stiff backbone, keeps Cole at a distance at the beginning, largely because she resents the assignment that will keep her away from the bulk of the action. However, she soon warms to the private detective, and falls in love with Cole despite the fact that he is in a committed relationship. Cole returns Dolan's interest but cannot show it without betraying Lucy.
