At the end of the memoir, Miller expresses her frustration with Stanford's response to her assault. She received only one phone call in the immediate aftermath informing her that Turner had been banned from campus, and then nothing until after Turner's sentencing. When representatives from the school finally do get in touch, they offer Miller $150,000, which she accepts largely because she wants to ease her parents' financial burden and have the money available in case Tiffany needs it for therapy. They also offer to create a park on the spot where Miller was assaulted, but she is disappointed when they refuse to put the quote from her impact statement on a bench in the park because it is deemed too controversial.
