Why was Katie sad to leave Iowa?

Katie was sad for a number of reasons, but the main reason was that she couldn't find the box containing her favorite stuffed animal Bera-Bera. She was also sad that they were leaving their home (where they were happy) for an apartment, and because they were heading for a southern state where their father said that they wouldn't be able to understand the accents.
