Eisenhower summoned Patton to meet with him. Because of remarks that Patton made and were repeated in the press, Eisenhower took command of the Third Army from Patton. Then Eisenhower assigned Patton to the Fifteenth Army, which was a paper army, tasked with the job of writing the war's history.
