Vic's sweatpants with the New York Mets logo on them represent Vic's quirky, sweet uniqueness and his growing self-love; they are also a warm of reminder of his father, who he misses very much. Vic initially wears the sweatpants because his jeans are dirty and he has no other pants. They become a comfortable pair of pants that he feels like he can be himself in. Mad appreciates the fact that Vic wears the pants proudly and does not seem to care what others think. He loves these pants and that is that. The "Metpants" as his father called them, are also a way for Vic to remember his father and to feel connected to him through their shared sense of humor, appreciation of wordplay, and love of baseball.
