Belinda is the heroine of The Rape of the Lock. Her character is based on the historical, Arabella Fermor, the daughter of an aristocratic Catholic family. Robert, Lord Petre, a friend of the family, cut off a lock of Belinda's hair without permission. Belinda is described as lovely, graceful, and sweet.
