One of the author's purposes is the exploration of, and commentary on, several flaws or failings in the American legal system. These flaws include, in the author’s mind and contentions, systemic racism; additional prejudice towards other so-called marginalized populations (i.e. women, the poor, the mentally ill); and an inclination towards expediency and / or responding to public pressure at the expense of truth and justice.
