Many bad omens have already happened. Most notably, dead men walking, ghosts wandering the city, a lioness giving birth in the street, and lightning shattering the skies. In this section, Calpurnia, Caesar's wife, has had a terrible nightmare which she deems a portent of Caesar's death. She urges him not to go outside on this day. He, of course, says that the gods are going to do what they will regardless of his position on the planet and he goes out anyway.
