In the story, Two Men, the narrator carries a gun, a symbol of his turning his destructive attitudes and behavior outwards instead of inwards. In other words, the gun represents his desire/determination to destroy someone else, as opposed to his weapons of choice for destroying himself - drugs and alcohol.
