What is the description of Mrs. Fairfax in Jane Eyre?

She is introduced as a kindly and warm woman who is knowledgeable and trustworthy. The first images we have of her are of her with her cat sitting near the fire knitting. It is a motherly image that is given and the reader (as well as Jane) views her somewhat in that way.
