Why does Ishi choose not to kill the snow rabbit in the book, Ishi: Last of His Tribe?

Ishi chooses not to kill the snow rabbit because he is able to coax the rabbit to come to him. The rabbit comes to him because it is curious, not because Ishi has overpowered it, so he does not want to kill it.
