When they are away from the village, Ishi and Tushi hide their presence by moving quietly and not leaving any trace behind them. Tushi steps in Ishi's footprints, and when the path is wet, they cover the prints with rocks and leaves. They make sure not to drop anything from their baskets and they never leave anything behind. When they could, they traveled down the river, jumping from rock to rock or wading in the water. They created tunnels through the thick underbrush so that they would not have to wear trails.
