Ishi and his family have survived only because Ishi's father taught them how to hide. While other Yahi tried to fight the saldu, Ishi's father taught them to hide in caves, under leaves, and even alongside trails in order to avoid detection. Ishi's father would set up fake camps in order to draw the saldu away from their village.
