How does the author use foreshadowing in Invisible Man?

In Chapter Seven, the narrator is annoyed by the veteran doctor,but we will later see that the vet's advice and predictions foreshadow many events of the novel. The narrator could have saved himself trouble if he had known to pay attention to the advice he received.
