What is the irony associated with Alex's love of The Call Of The Wild and the author, Jack London

What becomes apparent while reading the story is that Alex is an idealist, rather than a realist, and this is what leads him to his death. He has so absorbed all of the setting and grandeur of London's, Call of the Wild, that he does not stop to realize that Jack London was an author, rather than an explorer or survivalist.
