The trial symbolizes the ways in which interpersonal dynamics function within supposedly impersonal settings. The Court is meant to be a venue for highly formalized and dispassionate proceedings. However, the narrator observes how dynamics of emotion, opinion, and interpersonal rapport play a major role in determining the dynamics of the trial.
