What kind of relationship do Hal, Orin and Mario have with Avril?

Hal and Mario have a strained relationship with their mother, Avril. Avril fears that her sons will hide something from her, which makes Hal happy to smoke marijuana and think she does not realize it. Mario is unsure of his mother, especially when it comes to her emotions about the boys' father dying.
