What kind of impression do you get from Avril's character?

Avril's character is difficult to interpret because the reader never gets to see anything from her point of view. The reader cannot decipher her motivations. She appears bright and polite. She appears to care about her family. At the same time, it appears she is a part of perversely sexual games and has an affair with a man who might be her half-brother.
