How does the author use foreshadowing in Indian Ink?

In Act I, Part II, the reference to "a smudge of paint" in the letter read by Pike in the beginning of this section is in fact from Flora's last letter to her sister. The reference, therefore, foreshadows the end of the play and Flora's shift in perspective.
