This chapter shows another argument between Naomi spiritual beliefs, and those of Saul mother. When we consider that Saul parents would have learned about Christian religious practices from residential schools, and that Naomi would have taught them faith of the Ojibway people, what does it mean in Saul parents are adamant that Benjamin be buried according to Christian practice ? (This is an important question, and you need a paragraph length on this one.)

This means that despite the abuse of residential school, Saul's mother was indoctrinated enough to still believe in certain Catholic traditions. We can see just how much these "schools" were successful in destroying indigenous identity and practice. Saul's mother was adamant that Benjamin be buried by a priest even though she was trying to hide him from the same people she fears so much.
