Rifkele and Manke are the two central characters in the scenes of "..Vengeance" that appear throughout Indecent. Rifkele is a young woman, the daughter of Yekel and Sarah. Manke is an older woman, a prostitute who works in Yekel's brothel. The intimacy, vulnerability, honesty, and sexualization of their relationship in the so-called "Rain Scene" are embodiments of the themes common to both "...Vengeance" and Indecent. This is primarily true of how both narratives consider and manifest their parallel consideration of the pursuit of freedom. Meanwhile, the enacting of "The Rain Scene" by different pairings of actors is an example of Indecent's thematic consideration of different layers of reality. Finally, the playing of the scene by various combinations of actors manifests different aspects of the play's thematic interest in the nature of love.
