Enrique Mirabal is asuccessful farmer and store owner. He is also the father of the Mirabal sisters. A wealthy man, Enrique accommodates the Trujillo regime rather than fight it. He loves his children, but he is disappointed that he has four daughters and no son. When Maria Teresa was still a little girl, he began a long affair with another woman, with whom, he has four daughters. He forbids Minerva to attend law school, and he hides Lio Morales's letters to her. When Minerva discovers his secret life, she is angry, but they eventually reach a truce, and she accepts her half-sisters. After Minerva slaps Trujillo at the Discovery Day Dance, her father is arrested and kept in jail for weeks, where he suffered a heart attack and nearly lost his mind before being released. Enrique died on December 14,1953.
